| Edmonton, a touch of class - Clarence |
|
As we rode into the Milwaukee area, both in '98 for H-D's 95th anniversary and again in '03 for the 100th, overpasses were populated by locals, all waving a welcome to incoming riders. It was heart-warming indeed. I love Alberta and I love Edmonton, my home! But every so often Edmonton lets me down. Darlene and I had ridden to Lloydminster on Sunday, September 14, an annual ride to meet our nephew, Darrell, from Saskatoon for a coffee. After a couple of delightful hours of chit-chat, bad jokes and family gossip, we all got on our Harleys to head for home. With temperatures in the mid-twenties and the landscape punctuated with the vivid reds and yellows of autumn we had a grand ride back to Edmonton. As we approached the city I could not help but notice that the overpasses were barren! Not a single Edmontonian had made the effort to come out to greet us! Citizens of Edmonton, I implore you to show a bit more class - on the next warm autumn day, get out your lawn chairs and hike to the nearest overpass so you can wave a welcome to incoming riders! Show us how much you love us and how glad you are to see us back home safely! |
